Matthew 6:19-21

Treasures in Heaven

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

These three verses sum up to me a significant part of true freedom. This verse talks about treasure, both earthly and heavenly. We are instructed to store up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. Earthly treasures, such as money and status, fade with time, they can be lost. In the end, all of it is lost. We all die, and as the saying goes we cannot take anything with us. Instead store treasure in heaven where it will be waiting on you at the end. Follow the Father’s commands, and spend time with him. In doing so, you are free from the pressures of the world to amass wealth and fame, but rather build lasting wealth, spiritual wealth, that nothing and no one can take away.
