Matthew 6: 5-15

5 “When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. 6But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9Pray like this:

   Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
      as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]

14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

“Pray like this”, such direct instructions on how to talk to your Father in heaven. This is not a template but a checklist of all the things to cover when you talk to God.

Talk to Him about how great He is and you appreciate that. Let Him know you know that his what he wants will happen and you are signed on to that plan, this is a very freeing statement to make. Ask for the things you need, your hopes and desires. Talk to God about why you want those things. This will help you with clarity on you desire. Ask for forgiveness and for forgiveness for those around you. Pray for yourself and those around you, physically or your loved ones. Ask to be delivered from the temptation and remember that Jesus was tempted and understands what you are going through. Remember that everyone gets tempted, its your choice to give in or not.

Let your prayers be yours and not a show. I have seen too many Christians create and emotional puppet show with their prayers, it is good for nothing. Create a relationship with God through your prayers and he will bless you with a sound mind, clear spirit and a path on the greatest journey you could ever embark on. Use this as a compass and you will find whatever it is you’re looking for.
